How does my project use or challenge conventions?
In the second scene of my project, the main characters Darien and Izel are in a Library, and thus they have to whisper their dialog. Libraries in real life follow a rule of silence so people who come can get work done. Another convention I used was in my Third scene which took place in a car, Darien removed the key from the ignition before getting out to save gas. Usually people remove the key from the ignition to restrain the car from continuously running, thus saving gas and money.
How does my project represent social groups or issues?
In my project, there is a representation of a girl named Althea that has an abusive life at home and gets bullied at school by her peers. She eventually commits herself, represent real-life issues. Some people don't get along, especially when they don't know the situation at home. In my project's context, Darien and Izel and their friend group- Althea's peers, didn't understand her nor did they know her situation at home.
How does my project engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My project insinuates that some people's lives aren't the greatest and everybody goes through hardships. The girl who "passed away" in my film however, Althea, didn't know how to deal with her abusive family or disrespectful peers that she planned to get revenge upon passing. I wanted my project to be a short horror film, and hopefully that's how it'll be perceived. It would be distributed on YouTube, and if production could be longer I would distribute it into movie theaters.
How did my production skills develop throughout this project?
In the beginning of the school year, I didn't have much knowledge on cinematography- Camera shots, Editing, Sound, and Mise-en-scene. But as the year progressed, I began to understand how those factors create and display meaning on the big screen. I started to realize how much I learned when I started filming, as I was cutting my clips after lines to get different camera angles, editing in sound effects and using different editing techniques such as passing, and using stunt doubles in cars.
How did I integrate technologies in this project?
When I started filming, I was filming with a Canon EOS 90D named Alpha 2. It had a windshield over the microphone and was pretty efficient for scenes outside. However, I was unable to use it for my scene outside, so I used my iPhone SE 2020 for that scene. Sadly wind got picked up, but that was fine. For the Library scene in my film, I used my iPhone again because Alpha 2 was being used by one of my peers. Overall, I only used mostly my iPhone for majority of the scenes, and Alpha 2 for my last scene which took place outside and the actors were in a car
